In this three-day workshop, unleash your creative potential by creating cat and dog portraits with mixed media artist Susan Wiersema. You will learn everything you need to know to capture your pet’s personality, from taking reference photographs to framing your finished artwork.
In the first class, you’ll learn the secrets of good pet photography. We go over selecting an image, making sketches, and then transferring that image to the substrate of your choice.
In the second class, we will create the foundations of your art piece in watercolor or gouache. Then, we’ll add mark-making with colored pencils, pastels, or water-soluble crayons to create textures of fur or feathers
In the third week, we’ll put the finishing touches of highlights and darkening shadows on our piece. Susan will help you through the whole process with your posts on the class message board.
Susan Wiersema earned a BFA from the California State University of San Bernardino with a major in Photographic Arts and a minor in Graphic Arts. After graduating she worked a number of jobs including photographic printer and retoucher, photographer, framer, exhibit designer and docent for NASA. She also worked for Daniel Smith, where she learned all about art materials and supplies. Susan worked for Bainbridge Arts and Crafts for ten years where she hung artwork, designed exhibitions and window displays, and showed her work.
