With a strong base from Color and Memory as your Defining Tools Part 1, the journey continues. Now students will explore composition, color harmony, and memory to expand their potential for creative expression and create paintings that are not dependent on photographs.

The tools and creativity are two different things. You learn the tools: value, composition, color harmony and temperature, creating space, edge, and memory. Next, you let the creativity happen by separating the analytical (use of tools) and the response (how you feel and what the painting demands.) When we are ruled by the response we can begin to move beyond the subject matter.

Loriann Signori, with the landscape as her muse, is a creator of luminosity. She allows nature to teach her about color, light and movement. Her work is based in traditional methods, defined by colorist tendencies, and memory. As life- long painter, she received her BFA from Swain School of Design and MFA at American University, but the real work began outdoors and in the studio. Loriann is a faculty member of Pastel Society of America. She is an award-winning artist who has exhibited her work in galleries and museums across the country and won numerous awards.
