Painting scenes at the shoreline always involve trying to capture that extra special sense of light created by the presence of a body of water, whether that be the lapping waves of the ocean or the calmer waters of a lake. During this course, Peter will demystify his process of capturing these light-filled scenes in paint, those which often evoke special memories and moments captured between family and friends.
During these 2 structured and enjoyable lessons, Peter will demonstrate and explain the painting process, from the very beginning, with specific focus on brushwork, mixing accurate colours and the best ways to ‘finish’ a painting.
Peter will paint 2 different scenes, one will include a child on a beach and the other, a family group. Participants are welcome to paint the same image as Peter or work from one of their own special photos.
All of Peter’s demonstrations will be carried out using the wonderful, painterly medium of oil paint.
Peter Keegan is a professional artist living and working in Buckinghamshire, UK, specialising in oil painting. Trained at Cardiff School of Art, Peter follows traditional techniques but uses them in a way to depict his subjects in a modern and original style. His aim in portraiture is to always create a painting or drawing that reflects the subject’s likeness and personality. Peter also paints and exhibits figure paintings, local landscapes and still life paintings. Peter co-hosts the weekly podcast Ask an Artist: the podcast dedicated to offering free advice and guidance about the business side of being an artist.
