Simplicity is the glory of expression, said Walt Whitman. But it’s never simple to keep things simple- especially when you are talking about painting, which involves complexity of thought along with a firm grasp of technique and materials.
In this weekly class, we will discuss how to keep materials simple. We will also explore the importance of an open and joyful mindset and ways to start a painting and stay true to your initial impulse as you work. The focus will be on direct painting with oils or acrylics. Special emphasis will be placed on drawing, simplifying colors, grouping values, and on prioritizing and subordinating the elements in a painting. Each weekly session will focus on a specific topic and will include a short demo. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their work for feedback.
