This four-week online course will focus on watercolor techniques for painting an expressively loose landscape. Concentrating on learning to paint individual landscape features, this class will also provide instruction on manipulating color, value and edges into pleasing shapes. During the first three weeks, we will explore different landscape segments. Each class will include a lecture, demonstration, and weekly assignment. Week four will be composition study and pulling the elements together to create an expressive composition. Week five will be discussion and critique. Some prior experience with watercolor and color theory recommended.

  • Week 1: Sky and mountains
  • Week 2: Mid and foreground
  • Week 3: Foreground
  • Week 4: Planning the composition and pulling the elements together into one painting
  • Week 5: Followup Critique Session
