In this five week course we will cover techniques to help you loosen up and create paintings with more expression and personal style. Using photos and still life, we will practice interpreting our subjects, not just copying. The course begins with a lesson in design as we plan paintings using notan and value studies to create compelling compositions. In the following weeks, we will do some fun exercises that will help you capture your first impression on canvas quickly. We will explore beautiful color harmonies, textures and varied brushwork to elevate your paintings. Each session will start with a presentation/demonstration, followed by painting exercises and live feedback.

Robin Cheers

A contemporary impressionist: Robin is driven by a passionate desire to capture the essence of light and life. In the vein of the early impressionists, her work focuses on ordinary subject matter depicted with open brushwork, strong color and composition and sparkling light.

Drawn to creative pursuits since childhood, Robin found art to be a great unifier as her family frequently relocated. Earning her B.A. from Virginia Tech, Robin worked in graphic arts and web design for a decade. Serious fine art study led her switch to painting full-time in 2000. Making her home in Austin, Texas, the artist is an active member of her local art community, hosting figure painting sessions and online and local painting classes. She is a signature member of the American Impressionist Society and artist member of the Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists and the Austin Visual Arts Association. Robin is a founding member of Plein Air Austin and has won awards of excellence in both plein air competitions and juried art shows. Her work is collected worldwide.
