Our live online classes are taught via Zoom. Students have the opportunity to interact with the instructor and other participants, watch live demos and receive feedback and instruction. You will have access to a class chat forum where you can share work, comment and ask questions. Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive instructions about how to access the class.
To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an IPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection.
In this four-week class, learn to capture light with an innovative underpainting technique with pastel artist Rita Kirkman. Receive helpful hints and tips from Rita’s 40 years of experience with pastel. You will focus on painting small and often to rapidly improve your skills and expand your knowledge. Instruction emphasizes composition and techniques for a small format, value and temperature control, how to creatively interpret your photos and how to stay productive with your art within a busy lifestyle. Rita Kirkman has received major awards in both national and international competitions. Her work has been featured in the Pastel Journal and the Pratique des Arts Spécial Pastel, and published in many others. She is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America and an Eminent Pastelist with the International Association of Pastel Societies. Her portraits and paintings are in private collections all over the world, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, Africa and Australia.
