Dates TBD. Stay tuned for more details!
Join contemporary award-winning artist Patrick Lee for an unforgettable plein air painting adventure in Umbria, Italy. The setting for this painting experience takes us to the hilltop town of Trevi. As part of a small, close-knit group, you will benefit from demonstrations and lectures, personal and group critiques and frequent art chats. Your time will be spent gaining painting skills while immersed in Italian culture and traditions.
Demonstrations and instruction will focus on the fundamentals of plein air painting: drawing, value, design, and color and how to balance these elements as you learn how to interpret nature with rich beautiful color.
Each day of painting will begin with a short instructor demo, then you will venture into the surrounding countryside to paint the natural beauty of Umbria. This region is known for its rolling hills, quaint medieval towns and open, welcoming residents. Painters will spend one day painting the town’s historic Villa Fabri and another painting a historic, privately owned olive oil farm and mill. All levels of expertise are welcome. Participants may paint in oils or acrylics.
About Patrick Lee
Patrick Lee takes a unique creative approach to making paintings in the studio and en plein air. He draws heavily on intuition and imagination to develop an image, often altering the drawing, color, and spatial relationships to create a mood and express a feeling about the subject. This often leads to strong elements of abstraction and suggestion in his work, rather than explicit detail. This gives the viewer an opportunity to connect with each piece in their own way, inviting them to let their own imaginations make personal associations and connections.
