Our live online classes are taught via Zoom. Students have the opportunity to interact with the instructor and other participants, watch live demos and receive feedback and instruction. You will have access to a class chat forum where you can share work, comment and ask questions. Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive instructions about how to access the class.

To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an IPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection.

Discover how to see, draw and construct an expressive portrait in this 5-week class with Master Artist Ned Mueller. Learn the simple basic proportions of the head, generic structure of individual facial features and how to develop and sharpen your eye to see the placement of the major features. Working in Conte and/or compressed charcoal,  participants will learn how to break the head down into simple value patterns and how to interpret these forms and values to get a strong likeness and make a compelling portrait.  Mastering the discipline and training of the mind and eye in creating a solid portrait will help you become more accurate and confidant in other areas of your artwork, whether figurative, still life or landscape. Ned will offer in-class demonstrations, as well as on-on-one individual attention in the class private group. Come prepared to work hard, learn and have fun!

Ned Mueller is an accomplished and highly respected artist with over sixty-five years of drawing and painting. He is the only Artist in the Northwest that has been designated as a “Master Artist” with both the Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society.  He is a graduate of the prestigious Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles. He has participated in numerous major invitational shows in the country, has shown in some of the Finest Galleries in the country and has won numerous awards and is included in many private fine art collections. He is a Signature member of the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Plein Air Painters of America. California Art Club, Northwest Pastel Society, Puget Sound Group of Northwest Artists, Northwest Rendezvous Group, and the American Society of Marine Artists. He continues to challenge himself to grow artiscally.
