A strong understanding of natural color and lighting is an important asset to any environment artist or fine art painter. In this 4-week gouache course, Mike Hernandez will cover the important fundamentals of composition design, color relationships, staging the light, atmospheric perspective, simplification and shape design through the use of gouache (students are welcome to use oil or acrylic if desired). This is a great workshop for anyone interested in outdoor painting and would like to learn how to capture a rich sense of natural lighting and color into their artworks.
Week one will start with a full lecture on all of the fundamentals mentioned above with an in depth discussion on color theory, composition, lighting and staging. Week two will be a pre recorded outdoor plein air gouache demo with a breakdown of my process and approach. Day three will be a live in class gouache demo where I will show how I paint from photos using the meathods learned from outdoor painting. Week four will finish up with a class discussion on all student art work. Some of my critique will be done using Photoshop to make notes and adjustments to student work.
