Our live online classes are taught via Zoom. Students have the opportunity to interact with the instructor and other participants, watch live demos and receive feedback and instruction. You will have access to a class chat forum where you can share work, comment and ask questions. Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive instructions about how to access the class.
To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an IPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection.
In this 6-week online class with Seattle artist Larry Calkins, delve into the history and power of ink and its mysteries as you explore its endless uses in your artwork. Ink is a vital component of any mixed media artist’s toolbox. It is a perfect point of departure for experimentation in your personal art practice.
Larry is well known for incorporating organic mark making in his creative work. He will share an endless array of tools that he uses for making interesting marks and adding visual texture to his process, from pop can pens, bamboo/forsythia twig pens, feathers, sumi brushes and more. You will have the opportunity to explore various types of ink, including homemade inks, invisible inks and inks from a variety of unexpected sources. You will also explore different surfaces, including gessoed paper, cloth, Japanese papers, and common papers like newsprint and copy paper. Slide shows will be included in the weekly classes.
