Ready to travel again? I know I am! Join me as we learn an exciting new way to bring your past travels home and prepare to enjoy future travel. Creating a travel sketchbook can enhance one’s experience and connection to this new world of exploration. Students will come home from their next trip with less photos, less stress and possibly some new ideas to incorporate into their everyday life and work. This class includes drawing, painting and writing, but no airport hassle, lost luggage or experience is necessary to learn Jane’s favorite Travel Sketchbook techniques! BONUS: We will create a small accordion travel sketchbook in class!
In the tradition of the early artists of the West, Jane Barton loves to capture the vanishing scene: old cars in Cuba, snow bound aspens in Colorado, colorful Italian fishing boats, sunsets on the Catalina Mountains near her home in Arizona. Painting constantly “en plein air” was the key to finding the information she needed to move from her early career as an award winning illustrator and graphic designer to her beautiful studio work. She studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, has a B.A. from Boston University and an M.A. in Illustration from Syracuse University School of Visual Arts.
Barton has lived in Arizona for over 40 years and loves the desert landscape but lately travel has taken her to Greece, Italy and Iceland and a recent collection celebrates the beauty and movement of the water she studied there. Her travel sketchbooks inspired The Travelers’ Creative Sketchbook and Illustrated Letters classes, which she teaches in Arizona, Illinois and Washington.
Jane is a member of the Salmagundi Club, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Laguna Plein Air Painters and a Signature member of both the American Women Artists and Arizona Plein Air Painters. www.janebartonstudio.com
