Engage in ‘pandemic life drawing’ (drawing a live model via zoom) in this six-week course with acclaimed artist Gage Opdenbrouw. Beginning with quick drawings in simple media (pencil, charcoal, and ink wash) and working primarily with gestures, lessons will focus on responsiveness and crisp painterly decision making. As the class progresses, we will gradually introduce longer poses (still no longer than 2 hours) and begin painting, trying to hold onto the simplicity and immediacy of our gestural work while beginning to address the complexity of color. Emphasis will be on drawing, painting and, specifically, HOW we paint the complex with immediacy and hopefully some subtlety- a tall order! This class is geared toward the experienced figurative artist and is non-academic (we will not cover anatomy, etc, though it may be addressed as needed). Cost includes model fees.
