Fatima Young

“Sans Vase”

9.5 x 13.5 inches, by Fatima Young

“Traveling to majestic places in the Northwest has influenced Fatima Young to paint special landscapes as a part of her current works. Having been born in Europe of Russian heritage, Fatima came to the United States at an early age. It was that heritage, specifically the Russian Impressionists, that inspired her artistic interests. She went on to receive degrees from F.I.T. and C.W. Post University in New York. After a long and successful career in magazine publishing, Fatima started painting again. Just in the last several years, Fatima’s passion for hiking and painting has driven her to become a plein air painter. She studies nature at its purest, always intending to reduce complex forms of nature into simple shapes and strokes…allowing the viewer to imagine the rest. Recapturing the moment on a larger canvas in the studio has broadened her scope even more. In the tradition of certain Russian Impressionists, Fatima uses the palette knife to catch the earth’s rich moods. She mixes bolder chroma to accentuate light and dark contrast in her work. The canvas becomes an interpretation of her inner vision. Fatima continues to hone her craft. Although the majority of her work is done outdoors, she also enjoys painting still lifes and portraits in her studio on Bainbridge Island. She hopes to connect viewers through her process and her journey.”
