Join David Mensing online for ‘UNDERSTANDING HARMONIOUS COLOR: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LIGHT AND COLOR,’ an exciting and inspiring course in the understanding and application of harmonious color. While it cannot be disputed that harmonious color is desirable in fine paintings, many artists find it to be elusive in concept and practice. Often it is difficult to find practical and reliable ways to achieve it.
This course will help students understand harmonious color and offer specific techniques to ensure harmonious color application in their paintings. Students will be encouraged to experiment with new techniques for vibrant compositions, focusing on the palette knife and its remarkable flexibility as a painting tool. With lively discussion, demonstration and exercises, we will explore the relationship between light and color. Each student will have the opportunity to apply and emphasize color harmonies in their paintings. Discussion topics will include light source influence, relationships between value and color characteristics, utilizing complimentary colors and various strategies for color application.
Attention to certain key principles of painting can accelerate growth as an artist. Even modest growth in these areas can have profound impact on overall quality of work. An artist of any skill level that develops a deeper appreciation and understanding of harmonious color is poised to make significant improvement in their work.
